Getting here
However you’re arriving on Roatán
Sandy Bay is on the north-west coast, between Coxen Hole and West End. Most guests come straight from the airport or the cruise port; a few walk over from Blue Bahia’s own rooms.
From Roatán airport (RTB)
~15 minutesJuan Manuel Gálvez International is the closest airport to us — roughly 6 miles east. Take a taxi from the arrivals rank (agree the fare first, usually around US$20–25) and ask for Blue Bahia Resort, Sandy Bay.
Tell us your flight and we can arrange a driver to meet you.
From the cruise ports
~20–30 minutesShips dock at Coxen Hole (Town Centre) or Mahogany Bay. A taxi to Sandy Bay takes 20–30 minutes depending on traffic. Message us before you sail so we can hold boat space for you.
Reserve a dive in advance — port days fill up fast.
From West End & West Bay
~5–15 minutesStaying on the west side? You’re close. A taxi up the main road to Sandy Bay is short and cheap, and you get calmer water and quieter dive sites than the West End moorings.
Ask your hotel to call a driver, or we can point you to one.
By ferry from the mainland
La Ceiba → RoatánThe Galaxy Wave ferry runs daily between La Ceiba and Coxen Hole (about 90 minutes). From the ferry terminal, take a taxi to Sandy Bay as above. Check current sailing times before you travel.

The Beach Grill
Adding to the allure of the resort is The Beach Grill, an on-site culinary gem that has become a beloved dining destination on Roatán. Renowned for its delectable offerings, this restaurant spoils guests with an array of culinary delights — from fresh, locally-sourced seafood to succulent smoked brisket and savory USDA pork, the menu is a testament to the island’s rich Caribbean flavors. And let’s not forget the acclaimed hamburgers, widely regarded as the best on the island.

Why the north shore
Sandy Bay dives differently from West End
Most of Roatán’s dive shops sit in West End, along the bar strip. We’re on the calmer north side — and for a diving holiday, that changes the whole day.
Sheltered, flatter water
The north shore is protected from the prevailing wind and swell for much of the year. Shorter runs, easier entries, and boat rides that don’t leave you green.
The marine reserve on the doorstep
We dive inside the Sandy Bay–West End Marine Reserve — healthy hard coral, big sponges, turtles and the occasional eagle ray, a few minutes from the mooring.
Quieter sites, smaller groups
Fewer boats compete for the north-shore moorings, so you’re rarely sharing a site. Six divers to a guide, maximum. Meet the crew.
The whole island is still close
Sandy Bay isn’t remote — West End, West Bay and the shark dive at Cara a Cara are all a short drive or boat ride. More about diving Roatán.

Questions
Before you come
Where exactly is Sandy Bay Divers?
On the pool deck at Blue Bahia Resort, on the Sandy Bay beachfront, on the north-west coast of Roatán — between Coxen Hole and West End. The full address is Blue Bahia Resort, Sandy Bay, Roatán, Bay Islands, Honduras.
How far is it from Roatán airport?
About 15 minutes by taxi — roughly 6 miles. Juan Manuel Gálvez International (RTB) is the nearest airport. Agree the taxi fare before you get in, usually around US$20–25.
Do I need to rent a car?
No. Taxis are easy, and if you stay at Blue Bahia everything you need is on site. We can help arrange transport for day trips.
Can I dive with you if I’m staying in West Bay or West End?
Yes — plenty of guests do. It’s a 5–15 minute taxi up the coast road, and you get calmer water and quieter sites than the west-side moorings. Book ahead so we can time your pickup.
Is Sandy Bay a good place to dive?
It’s one of the best-kept parts of the Mesoamerican Reef. The Sandy Bay–West End Marine Reserve protects the reef right off the shop, the water is sheltered, and the sites are far less crowded than West End. See the sites.
I’m on a cruise ship — can I still dive?
Yes. Message us before your sailing date so we can hold boat space and time everything to your ship’s schedule. A taxi from Coxen Hole or Mahogany Bay is 20–30 minutes. Get in touch.
